Directorate General Enterprise (currently called Directorate General for Informatics)

The mission of the Enterprise Directorate General is to address the entire business environment to enable enterprises to strengthen their competitiveness, grow and develop in a way that is compatible with the overall EU goals of sustainable development.

Directorate Information Society
The objective of the Directorate-General for the Information Society is to implement the Commission's policy with regard to the Information Society.

  • European Agencies

A Community agency is a body governed by European public law (distinct from the Community Institutions - Council, Parliament, Commission, etc.) and has its own legal personality. It is set up by an act of secondary legislation in order to accomplish a very specific technical, scientific or managerial task which is specified in the relevant Community act. There are currently fifteen bodies answering the definition of Community agency.

eEurope, An Information Society for all
eEurope is part of the Lisbon strategy (June 2000) to make the European Union the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy with improved employment and social cohesion by 2010. This website delivers articles, documents and events on eEurope ongoing developments.

eEurope Action Plan

GoDigital
GoDigital encourages companies to use the Internet in their business and is part of the European Commission's eEurope initiative.

eBusiness
This website of Information Society Directorate-General offers information about the latest developments in electronic commerce.

eContent and eContentplus
This Information Society Directorate-General's initiative supports the production, use and distribution of European digital content and promotes linguistic and cultural diversity on the global networks.

eSafety
This Joint initiative of the Information Society and Enterprise Directorates supports the use of information and communication technologies in intelligent solutions, in order to increase road safety and reduce the number of accidents on Europe's roads.

eTen
This programme supports the deployment of telecommunication networks based services (eServices) with a trans-European dimension. eTEN provides assistance in the critical launch phase of a service, so that investors or public authorities can make informed decisions before the launch of service, based on thorough analysis of the economics involved.

Safer Internet
The Safer Internet programme funds actions as a coherent response by the European Union to illegal and harmful content on the Internet.

New Approach Standardisation in the Internal Market
Information regarding the European standardisation system. This website represents the joint efforts of the three European Standards Organisations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) together with both the European Commission and EFTA.

Information Society Standardisation System (CEN/ISSS)
This initiative from the

Your Europe
The 'Your Europe' portal gives individuals and businesses practical information on their rights and opportunities in the EU. It focuses on real-life, cross-border situations, e.g. European citizens wishing to work or study in another EU country, or European businesses wanting to move to or open a new branch in another EU Member State.

EURES
European Employment Services (EURES) facilitate the free movement of workers within EEA. For more info see also the IDABC section dedicated to EURES (link)

SOLVIT
SOLVIT has been set up to resolve problems resulting from possible misapplication of Internal Market Rules by a public administration in another Member State, as efficiently as possible without the need for legal action.

TRIS
The 98/34 information site concerning national technical regulations.

The IPR-Helpdesk
A project of the European Commission
Directorate General for Informatics, establishes wide-ranging contacts with patent offices, patent lawyers' associations, university communities, and others involved in IP issues in all EU Member States. The IPR-Helpdesk acts as a catalyst to link those seeking assistance on IP issues with organisations able to provide the necessary help.
